WoW Treadmill Race Across Azeroth (or WoW These Guys Need A Life)
For all my friends who play World of Warcraft, this blog’s for you. I hope none of you ever show these sort of symptoms, because if you do, I’m going to arrange an intervention.
Seriously…

Team Disbanded, Kid Is Banned From Baseball: He Is Too Good
The liberal feel-good, overzealous protect-kids-from-everything-under-the-sun crowd really have outdone themselves. A 9 year old boy was banned from little league baseball and his team disbanded because he pitches too fast.
Yes, he’s too good at what he does, so he shouldn’t be allowed to use his talent. Parents who raise their kids to be mediocre and afraid don’t want their kids to compete against a team that has an exceptional player. The message being sent, loud and clear for everyone to hear, is that if you stand out as exceptional, you will be cut down to size. Mediocrity and low expectations are all that are acceptable in America anymore it seems.
Look at the quality of goods produced in America. Look at how much outsourcing and poor business conduct occurs in the name of cutting costs (and customer service…what the hell is that?). Look at how obese American kids are becoming, how drugs and gangs and a million other things are getting worse and worse (right along with the economy, which is no wonder) every year.
A large part of the reason is poor parenting. Why on Earth would you teach or encourage your kid to be mediocre, or to fear a challenge, or to dread loss and failure? Those things test people and build character—especially in young people.
What next? Will we see schools and attorneys and moonbats say you can’t target the easiest kids to hit when playing dodge ball? Worse, will they say you can’t play if your aim is too good?
The entire field of sports is becoming a joke. From football to boxing to basketball to the Olympics, joke, joke, joke. And poor jokes at that. Underage gymnasts, steroids, ear-biting, brawls with fans, shoplifting, killing endangered birds of prey with golf balls, whining about getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars (or millions!) to play a kids game for a living… You can’t hardly find a respectable athlete that you would feel comfortable having a kid look up to.
Hell, you could probably start a sports trading card company just using mugshots of arrested athletes these days.
I don’t even really like baseball. I find it boring to be honest. But even I think it is incredibly stupid to ban a 9 year old kid from playing baseball because he essentially is better at what he does than those around him.
Gosh, I hate to think what kind of message it might send if excellence was respected. I wonder… Do you think a business would ever want to hire someone who is more talented at what they do than the majority of those in a peer position? Nah…that’s crazy. Why would you want someone talented on your team?
Instead of hiring a kick ass doctor, your hospital should be forced to close down—and that doctor should be banned from practicing…unless he is willing to accept a position as a CNA. That’s the kind of society we want to live in, right?
Give me a fucking break.

The Beijing Farce, AKA The Olympics
I’m glad I have boycotted the Olympics and not watched a single moment of it on television. You can’t hardly miss it for the media coverage online however. All of it just drives home the point that I am indeed glad to have boycotted this farce of an Olympics in China.
While President Bush was enjoying the farce and frolicking about in at the games in one of the nations with the worst human rights records in existence, one of our allies was invaded by Russia. In the meantime, it seemed like every day brought news of some athlete being disqualified, giving up their metals, deported and someone imprisoned or murdered at the Olympics. And then we have the underage Chinese gymnasts and the IOC’s cover up.
No one wants to offend China. Everyone wants to sweep things under the rug and kiss ass.
I’m not just boycotting this Olympics…I’m boycotting them all from now on. The Olympics aren’t anything but an occasional feel-good get-together these days. They have no integrity whatsoever.
And really, indoor bike racing? That’s sort of like calling golf a sport…
I suppose most people in the world prefer to watch two guys in spandex hurrying around in circles on an indoor wooden track than watch those in Tibet, Georgia and Darfur dying, though.

China Makes Olympics Political, Bans Darfur Activist
You see, President Bush? Once again your ignorance of issues has made America look stupid. You are too morally decrepit and cowardly to boycott some fucking games over genocide, and the Chinese make you look like a fool. The Chinese revoked the visa of an athlete activist who has the guts to speak out about Darfur and the Chinese involvement, speed skater and gold medalist Joey Cheek (who was not going to compete, but to support fellow athletes).
How utterly gutless of the Chinese.
The worst part of it is that you, President Bush, make all Americans look bad and uncaring. As a leader you should represent the best of what our country is—instead, you represent the worst. Right along with the Olympic committee and the American athletes competing, you show no consideration for issues of humanitarian concern. I suppose that’s to be expected from a President that advocates torture, though, eh?
One more reason to be disgusted with America, those leading it, and the Olympics as a whole. I won’t be watching the Olympics again. I’m going to boycott the whole thing the rest of my life….for whatever that accomplishes. The gutless media outlets and networks too cowardly to take the Chinese government to task won’t get any viewing or reading from me.
In fact, I may vote Democrat this Fall just to protest President Bush’s horrible choice to attend the Beijing Olympics. I am pretty sure I don’t have anything made in China whatsoever, but I’m going to make sure and damn sure not buy another Chinese item.

White Boy Joe Calzaghe Beats Bernard Hopkins And Becomes New Light Heavyweight Champion
Joe Calzaghe is still undefeated. And now, he’s not only the undisputed Super Middleweight Champion of the World, but the undisputed Light Heavyweight Champion of the World as well.
As Joe himself said, it wasn’t a pretty fight…but it was a damn good fight. And, I enjoyed it all the more because I was able to share the experience with someone who is very special to me—and hopefully a newly converted Joe Calzaghe fan.
At 36 years of age, the Welshman hasn’t been beaten since 1990 when he lost an amateur fight. He’s now 45-0 with 32 KO’s as a professional. The pundits, who have been saying that American boxers are on some other level from European fighters ought to be sufficiently busy dealing with getting their foots out of their mouths by now that we can move on to seeing more good match-ups. Perhaps now we’ll see more big name American fighters crossing the ocean to fight more European fighters? I hope so—it would be good for the sport.
Hopkins’ racist comments hang over his head now, a reminder of what writing checks your butt can’t cash feels like I’m sure. Never really liked Hopkins, but I take nothing away from him as a fighter. He had a good run and is one of the best. I wish he had been more classy on his way out of the sport…which, if he has any sense, is where he’ll head.
Of course, it appears he has a possible career awaiting him in acting…
Congratulations, Joe Calzaghe! And to you, too, Enzo Calzaghe! You both have given the world one of the most incredible stories ever…and a much needed touch of class.

Time For Nations To Boycott The Olympics And China
With China’s latest crackdown on the people of Tibet, it is clear that the time has come for the world to take a stand together and hold the Chinese government to account. The Dalai Lama recently called what China is doing “cultural genocide” and I don’t think any reasonable person with eyes or ears can really dispute that.
With many nations supporting and recognizing Kosovo’s independence, will they now do nothing to support the people of Tibet when they are being brutalized by the Chinese government? I think the hypocrisy of the developed nations of the world will be seen as clearly as can be when they refuse to boycott the upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing. It is, like most everything in the sad world we have shaped, about money.
If China were suffer the embarrassment of losing the Olympic games, it would send several messages—and not just to China, but to all other nations as well. It would tell them that while they may be part of the international community, their human rights abuses and oppression will not be rewarded.
And that is what hosting the Olympic games is, it is a reward. Not just economically, but in the form of prestige. It is time the Olympics remember the intent behind their origins. It was far more than just a celebration of athletic prowess—it should not be forgotten that the winner was awarded a crown of olive leaves in ancient times, a symbol of peace and hope. Such things have been forgotten and it has become nothing more than a source of advertising revenue and political snobbery for many decades now.
China does not deserve to host the Olympics, and nations should either boycott the Beijing Olympics or request that it be moved. It would not be that hard to do, and it would show determination by the international community to say “We will not tolerate oppression and human rights abuses against the people of Tibet.”
It won’t happen though. People will say it will rob athletes of opportunities, or that contracts and broadcasting logistics make it impractical. People of little moral worth will find many reasons not to do the right thing, which is to not honor China with the Olympics—because that government is the antithesis of everything those games represent. The Chinese government has invaded and brutalized Tibet and is robbing it of its cultural heritage, of hope and the peace Tibetans seek.
How can you not be moved when people are protesting and using non-violent means to seek their independence? The world pays so much attention to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and makes much ado of the violence, yet tolerates it year after year. Tibetans protesting peacefully have been ignored, and some have taken the most drastic steps you can imagine, such as self-immolation.
[Note: You may find this video interesting, but it contains graphic footage of a Tibetan hunger striker who eventually set himself on fire during a protest. It is almost beyond comprehension, the amount of courage, desperation, and willpower it takes to do so---and to have your hands clasped together, praying and begging for freedom as you burn. Tibetan Exiles Grow Impatient In India ]
Sadly, because the international community has ignored the plight of Tibet, the people of that country are turning to more violent protests. The situation is on the verge of becoming another Kosovo, with actual genocide and needless deaths because people no longer want to be governed by a government they feel does not represent them and that does not fulfill the covenant between the governed and the government. The International Olympic Committee refuses to wade into the issue at all, and has shown itself to be completely and utterly devoid of ethics or compassion.
As a result, the situation is deteriorating and will only continue to do so. Those governments too cowardly to boycott, and the IOC will bear much of the burden of blame for the deaths that are to come in Tibet.
The games are still months away. There is time for the international community to take a stand. Sadly, I don’t expect anyone will. Stephen Spielberg shames the governments of the world. He pulled out of his involvement in the Beijing Olympics over China’s involvement in the crisis in Darfur (China’s arms sales have gone up noticeably during the crisis).
Since the games are about nothing more than money these days, I don’t expect any governments to do anything. Moral courage is elusive among the world’s governments…even when it involves nothing more than saying “no.” It was no big thing to carve Kosovo away from Serbia—China, with its vast military and economic resources is another matter altogether.
No one wants to incur the wrath of the dragon by telling it that it is acting like a monster.
Sadly, Tibet may have to endure genocide before the international community finds the will to act, but even then, that is no guarantee. Just look at Darfur. It will in the end probably require the people of Tibet to take up arms and fight for what they want. That is the sad truth of the world in which we live. Money causes governments and people to turn a blind eye until something intrudes on their life so much that they can no longer pretend to others that they were unaware of a situation and fear looking bad or to lack compassion.
Freedom is not free. But the Olympics could help lower the cost.
Update 1, 03-18-2008: There is talk about a partial boycott of the opening ceremonies now and it appears to be gaining momentum.
Update 2, 03-18-2008: The Dalai Lama has said he may step down as the political leader in exile of Tibet as a result of the growing unrest and violence, while maintaining his spiritual leadership. He does not approve of the violent protests. It may soon become something beyond peaceful protest however. I personally think this year will be the turning point and that a Tibetan insurgency will have begun by the year’s end as younger Tibetans decide they can no longer tolerate waiting on political processes nor count on peaceful protest. If the political leaders of the world do not apply a tremendous amount of pressure on the government of China and give them cause to rethink their approach to governance and the independence of Tibet, the situation will gradually steer further away from the possibility of a peaceful resolution. If the Dalai Lama steps down, it will be just the fractious political development that will leave a leadership vacuum perfect for those with more radical views on achieving independence to step in and take advantage of the lack of a central figure in Tibetan nationalism.

Roz Savage Starts Solo Row Across Pacific
Already the first woman to row solo across the Atlantic Ocean, Roz Savage is aiming to be the first woman to row solo across the Pacific. Less than 24 hours ago, she finally caught a break in the weather and set out.
I have no doubt she’s going to pull this one off. After reading about her, there’s nothing to say but that she’s an amazing woman. And, amazing people can do amazing things.
I am particularly interested in following her efforts because my curiosity demands it. It’s the sort of thing I would love to do first of all, and secondly, I am curious about the blogging and Internet connectivity issues that she faces on her trip. You see, she’s going to be blogging through the trip, and her posts will be remotely posted.
Apparently, her blog is powered by SailBlogs.com, which is tailored for intrepid adventurers of the sailing variety. They offer different plans to suit different needs. I have heard of a few different setups people have used to update others on their ocean voyages, ranging from text messaging to shortwave relay to satellite relay. I like the fact that blogging at sea is a reality, as it is simple and personal—but, also because it appeals to my techy side.
I discovered Roz’s planned trip on National Geographic’s Adventure website (which is great), and had to take a peak at her website. The more I read, the more I want to head out on my own ocean adventure. The wheels are turning, plans are being made.
Soon…

New Olympic Logo Sucks But Might Be Appropriate.
OK, the title of this post says it all. I suggest you take a look and create your own opinion.
I’ve seen dog turds on sidewalks that would have made for a more pleasing design…

Gracie And Shamrock Sucked, Gina Carano Makes Kicking Butt Look Sexy
The worst fight on the card the entire night was Renzo Gracie and Frank Shamrock. The referee made them stand up when Gracie had a good side mount going and was just getting into his game. What a crock.
Shamrock intentionally kneed Gracie repeatedly in the back of the head. Gracie suffered a concussion and the fight ended with Shamrock disqualified…
Gracie wins by disqualification.
The best match I saw all night was Gina Carano winning another one. She is not only a great fighter, but she’s incredibly beautiful and sexy. I can totally see her as an Amazon warrior queen.
I’d like to get her in a full mount…

Sugar Still Painfully Sweet
‘Sugar’ Shane Mosely went into this one having dropped down in weight; there was a lot of speculation that it might be a concern. There has also been speculation that he is simply getting old.
Well, the man is a warrior, no matter what anyone says.
Callazo needed a win, though, after losing his last fight to Ricky Hatton. Callazo was heavier, younger, and raring to go. He was hungry-looking.
I knew it was going to be a good fight…

We’re About To Go Commando: Welcome To The Yongle
OK, for some reason I keep coming across a lot of websites that mention going commando these days. Everyone knows the basic meaning of it, but not much more.
Even Wikipedia does little more than equate it with freeballing of military origins. Since a recent post had me thinking about topics related to warriors and warfare, I might as well jump in on this one.
You’re about to learn what all your friends only wish they knew. The real, true-to-life meaning and history behind the phrase.
Warning. This is not for the squeamish.

Happy Birthday, Champ
Today, Muhammad Ali turns 65. The man who made the sweet science so sweet may be down with Parkinson’s, but a man who is so much larger than life can never, ever be counted out.
As a boxing fan, I wanted to take a bit of time to point out a few reasons why I want to wish him all the best today.

Chargers Fall, Patriots Luck Out
I’m sorry to see the Chargers lost this evening. I just finished watching the game and I feel really disappointed. I was hoping to see San Diego head on to the next round of the playoffs.
Well, the good thing about New England is that it means I’ll just get to see them really that much more disheartened when they lose later on. I really don’t like the Patriots, so I like that they have two more opportunities for getting smacked down. Who will do it? That’s the only question I care about.
Final Score: San Diego, 21 - New England, 24
But, what a game it was. There’s a chance the big game will be a good one this year. However, unless the Saints make it, I’ll be watching the Lingerie Bowl instead.
