Song of the Day: Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms

If you’ve ever wondered what might make a hard man misty-eyed, what does it for me in particular, here’s one example. While there are a few things that have that effect on me, this is the only one I’m sharing at the moment.

This has been one of my favorite songs of all time, and it gave me goosebumps the very first time I heard it. It still does. It’s hard to listen to sometimes, and I have noticed that it affects many others the same. It is a fitting tribute as well to those generations past, whom sacrificed so much.

Mark Knopfler’s guitar playing is transcendental, and words cannot describe how I admire his playing. I wish I had the tiniest fraction of his talent. I’m including two different video versions of Brothers In Arms, by Dire Straits, so you can hear the album version and so you can see it as it was played live in 1988, at Nelson Mandela’s birthday celebration in South Africa. I don’t care about the politics of it, but even if you can’t escape it, it is worth seeing merely on the strength of the artist’s performance.

That second video is just so haunting, as befits the song. Eric Clapton, who was there to perform as well, backed Mark Knopfler on this song—and, I daresay, you can see that even Slowhand was awed by the moment. If you have ever wondered what a musician making magic and touching something divine looks like, be sure to watch the last minutes of the 1988 Mandela birthday tribute performance. It is humbling. It is what music is meant to be.

Today’s Song of the Day goes out to those of you who were there, and those that are no longer with us.

The album version…

The Live performance in South Africa, 1988…
[From 5:18 to 6:32 there were technical difficulties, but hang in there, as soon as the video comes back, it is simply amazing.]

Redfining Death: Issues Of Organ Donation And Life

After reading an article in the Washington Post today about how doctors are seeking to push the definition of what constitutes dead, I have decided I am revoking my status as an organ donor and will no longer consider the option of donating my organs upon my death. This will be reflected upon my new identification shortly. Why am I doing this? It’s an ethical concern and I see the medical profession taking the wrong position on it.

That heart of the matter is, well, your heart apparently. Doctors are trying to make it so that they can declare people dead more quickly in order to harvest more organs. While it is great to find organs for those in need and a miracle and act of kindness when someone is given a new lease on life because medicine has allowed for it, we cannot afford to cross the line where we seek to rob life from those that doctors might see as unfeasible to save—perhaps because they are too old, or too ill and might just die soon anyway for various reasons.

We should not as individuals nor as a society cede the right nor ability to determine when a life is over to those whose interests are not ours and whose interests and very profession depends on practicing organ transplants. That’s an inherent conflict of interest.

Let’s say, just for the sake of argument that no one donated organs…well, there would be less need for those surgeons and physicians specializing in the areas of medicine that require those skills. To give them the ability to determine that you are dead sooner in order to harvest more organs poses a dilemma of grave concern to everyone.

Sure, the argument is that it is for a good cause—that of saving lives. But the inverse is also true, that it is an equally good cause to save lives of those who might not need lose theirs just yet. We should not be giving the ultimate decision to people whose livelihood depends not on keeping us alive, but on simply having work to do. In other words, these surgeons that specialize in organ transplants should not have any say whatsoever in whether or not you should be kept alive or not.

Their conflict of interest is of the greatest weight when you get right down to it, and yet there is little incentive to keep people that fall under certain categories alive. It is just as beneficial to the medical profession to transplant your organs and allow your life to end as long as they extend someone else’s lease on life, which creates another individual who will be paying money to the hospital and in all likelihood need medical care for which they will pay for what would be a greater duration perhaps than the person whose life they end prematurely or sooner in order to harvest the organs from.

What it boils down to for me is this: if one dies and wishes to donate their organs, that’s an act of kindness. But until EVERYTHING has been done and until there is absolutely no chance of saving their life, there should not even be concern for anyone waiting on an organ donation with regards to the person whose life hangs in the balance. When no measures can revive someone, when they are indeed dead, then if organs can be harvested and used to help someone else, that’s great. I’m all for it.

However, trying to rush things along out of convenience or with a profit motive reeks of immoral–if not downright evil–intent. (And please, if you’re one of those people who thinks using the word evil has anything to do with religion, crack a dictionary before responding. A rant about evil will just get your comment sent to spam hell.)

We should not even be going down this road as a society. Too many people feel there is some entitlement to anything and everything—including a replacement organ. Or life.

Not everyone is meant to live. Life is fickle. Those who can live a longer life through the amazing miracle of organ transplant have a special gift unlike any other. But they are by no means entitled to it. No one is.

And so, because I do not like the reasoning behind nor the direction of the medical profession and the lack of oversight when it comes to people’s right to life, I am revoking my position as an organ donor. At some point, you have to take a stand on ethics in relation to all areas of life, though many people never do. And that’s part of the problem. People don’t take a position on anything, and they give away power and rights by failing to take a stand on an issue.

There have been numerous cases of people who were pronounced dead, and after laying on a table with no life support for many minutes (some more than 20 or 30 minutes), they came back to life. There was one such case just this past year. Would it have been ethical or right of some doctor to begin harvesting that persons organs after the patient had been pronounced dead?

I have decided I intend to ensure such is never the case where I am concerned.

When I die, my organs will go with me to whatever end lies beyond death’s door…even if it is merely dust or ash. But they will bring along with them something else, and that is integrity of a sort, however small, and that too will follow me wherever the journey leads—however short it may be. Will I regret or feel bad that someone did not have organs that might have saved their life?

Not at all. As I said, not everyone is meant to live. That’s simply life. What isn’t meant to be is not meant to be. But I look at the crimes being committed around the world now as organ harvesting has become a criminal activity. Travelers literally wake up one morning to find they have been drugged and operated on and are missing organs. Others end up dead because someone harvested organs to sell and simply killed that person.

Organ transplants have become fuel for murder and cause for crime. The ethics of potentially extending someone’s life and potentially shortening or prematurely ending someone else’s— particularly when there is a profit motive involved—suggest that in light of the current social and civil climate we live in, organ donation is wrong and gives rise to evil and a perversion of what goodwill and good intention there originally was behind the concept.

And so, I will no longer be an organ donor.

Canadian Government Tortures American Exposing Police Run Drug Ring: His Wife And Son Missing

Take a look at the Scott Loper story. It’s the story of an American citizen, a former New Jersey police officer, who was jailed and tortured for years by the Canadian government after exposing a police-run drug operation. Now his wife and son have disappeared mysteriously, and the State Department has launched an investigation.

Toronto police apparently are a den of corruption and vice, as bad as any mob or other criminal organization, and when they were exposed, they took retribution on an American citizen who brought it out into the open–according to an article by CBC News. He was imprisoned and tortured for several years, and the Canadian government presented the US Government with an UNSIGNED WAIVER of his rights that supposedly was justification for this heinous act.

The Canadian government went so far in their attempt to cover up what happened as to deny that Loper had ever lived in Canada (his wife is Canadian), and dumped him at the US border. The Canadian government had to recant that assertion however, after Loper was able to present documents exposing the lie of the Canadian government, showing that in fact he had lived there.

Many American government officials are not doing anything about this story because they don’t want to make waves and don’t want to upset the Canadian government. However, it is time for the American people to remind our government that it works for the American people, not Canada or any other nation, not foreign corporations, not special interest groups, and certainly not corrupt police officers running drug operations in Toronto Ontario.

Contact your representatives in Congress and demand action and demand accountability by the Canadian government. This outrage cannot stand. If the US government will do nothing to protect American citizens, it does not deserve our obedience nor our allegiance. It is time to start forcing our leaders to do their jobs.

The Creepy Evangelical Christian Influence In The American Military

We have seen that the separation of church and state in America is disappearing along with other liberties, freedoms and any notion of justice or sense of duty to Americans. This video sheds a light on something that is troubling to me as an American veteran, which is the influence of evangelical Christians in the US military.

Even back in the 1990’s it was apparent—however, it was growing into a considerable problem. As if there wasn’t enough abuse of rank and privilege in the military, preferential treatment and others being skimmed over for advancement because they do not share a particular faith is a bad thing. It is even worse when top officers and those responsible for military-wide policy have their own personal crusading agendas.

That is yet another reason why I am against organized religion.

We have all sorts of lobbyists and special interest groups attempting to determine what equipment and weaponry our warriors ought to be fighting with or using, and now we have evangelical Christians seeking to pervert the loyalties of American fighting men and women.

The sort of things these idiots stand for are exactly the sort of things I promised to fight against—enemies foreign and domestic—when I enlisted. Any institution which seeks to pervert the loyalties of soldiers, insert its own agenda and policies into our military, and to encourage strife and warfare in the name of religion is an enemy of America in my book…be it Islam or evangelical Christianity.

Recently, soldiers have been finding themselves hounded by their chain of command for being Atheists. Pagan soldiers have had a hard time getting recognition of their faiths—which the followers of the Jewish sky-god in all their myriad variants have long enjoyed. Also recently in the news are reports about PMC (Private Military Corporation/Company) Blackwater having these self-same ties to evangelical Christianity and having unusually high percentages of such Christians evangelicals in their ranks—from the operatives in the field right through the senior level executives.

How bad has it become? Well, last fall, Secretary of State Rice was accused of hampering a Congressional panel investigating issues in Iraq. Why? Because they were investigating Blackwater.

It’s bad enough we have to defend America from Islamists and their terrorism, but now we have our own internal threat in the form of right-wing neo-cons with evangelical fervor in control of the world’s largest PMC and a growing number of military servicemembers who subscribe to that same zealotry.

Really…as if America doesn’t have enough problems, now the same idiots that don’t think I should be able to buy beer on Sunday have their own private military and are trying to subvert our national military. Is there ever going to be a day when America isn’t being sold out by Americans in order to make a buck or religious zealots wanting to reclaim a piece of dirt in the Middle East for the Jewish people?

Does anyone wonder why I dislike all those running around committing insanity in the name of some Jewish sky-god or some Arab moon-demon?

You know, the list of people and organizations I don’t like is far longer than the list of those causes and people that I do like. More and more I keep hoping that there will be some sort of Apocalypse, just so those of us who can’t stand all the zealots that operate in the name of money, the UN, religions, drugs, terror, globalism—and all the other lunacies—will have a chance to get rid of them.

They’re just fucking up our world.

You think I’m kidding? The fanatics of the Jewish sky-god are right here in America, armed to the teeth and preparing for the Apocalypse themselves, just waiting to establish yet another religious state–much like Al Qaeda wanted to create an Islamic caliphate in Iraq. Only they will call it the Christian Colonial Republic.

It’s nice to know if there is an Apocalypse, that freedom loving people will have no end of enemies and opponents to fight if they want to avoid having to live under religious oppression. These sorts will be my enemy just as much as any supposed anti-Christ! In fact, I would view both in pretty much the same light—a threat to liberty.

I didn’t recall Patrick Henry saying, “Give me religion or give me death,” but rather, “Give me liberty or give me death!”

My self-compiled SHF-T (Shit Hits Fan-Threats…”shifty” for short. Kinda like METT-T. Catchy, huh?) list is growing almost daily…

One of the many problems with America and Europe—all of western civilization in fact—is that western civilization has let itself be defined by religion that came out of the Middle East. Two centuries later, people are still running around fighting wars over the words of men long dead, a divine unmarried carpenter born of a virgin and a holy pedophile bandit with a taste for blood and taxes at that.

It’s no wonder the world is so screwed up. Makes me laugh every time I see those idiots in the KKK, the various Aryan sorts that claim to be standing up for racial pride of whites…yet who have tied their identity to the religions of those whose races they hate and look down on. Isn’t that just hilarious?

The whole Christian identity movement doesn’t realize how ridiculous their premise sounds to anyone who realizes that the faith they cling to is not the faiths of their ancestors or their race. And they are all running around toting their guns and hoping for an Apocalypse too, just so they can perpetuate more fallacy, idiocy…and violence on the world…and, err…say it is in the name of peace-loving baby Jesus, right?

Remarkable, the human propensity for madness, isn’t it?

Song Of The Day: The Bastard Fairies - We’re All Going To Hell

OK, today’s Song Of The Day is by the band who had the honor of being the band I chose to kick off this feature. All hell…err, hail, The Bastard Fairies.

I thought with my previous post about the soldier getting in trouble for shooting a copy of the Quran, it was appropriate. Enjoy We’re All Going To Hell by The Bastard Fairies!

US Military Says It Is A Crime To Shoot The Quran, Relieves GI

While I think it was probably not a smart thing to do, and perhaps in poor taste, I don’t see how US military commanders can call it a crime. The soldier, a sniper, was punished and reassigned to duty back in the States.

According to Major General Jeffrey Hammond:

“The actions of one soldier were nothing more than criminal behavior,” Hammond said. “I’ve come to this land to protect you, to support you — not to harm you — and the behavior of this soldier was nothing short of wrong and unacceptable.”

(Source: CNN.com)

Another military “official” apparently kissed a Quran and presented it as a gift to some tribal sheiks.

Well, here we have the US military kissing asses and Qurans and punishing soldiers who shoot books? I wonder what would happen if a whole lot of soldiers started shooting Qurans for a free ride home?

And then you have Iraqis crying about it being a crime. It’s a book. Get over it and yourselves.

Here we have an American soldier defending the government of Iraq and America getting punished because he doesn’t like the holy book of terrorism and barbarism–and his own chain of command screwing up his career in a heartbeat to kiss ass. Remember your oath? Enemies, foreign and domestic? There are a lot of those in the chain of command anymore.

Your leadership will sell you out in a heartbeat; happens every time in the military. The good news, if American servicemembers want to come home all they need to do is shoot, burn or piss on a Quaran. Wouldn’t it be funny as hell if a few thousand decided to voice their disgust with the mission in Iraq, the government of Iraq, and our own political leaders by doing a simple thing that in America we have the freedom to do, but in the faux ‘democrazy’ of Iraq you cannot?

Nancy Pelosi has been going about it all wrong. She ought to just stand next to a giant cardboard cutout of John Wayne and suggest that real Americans would shoot or burn or piss on or otherwise desecrate the Quaran. The war would be over in a flash as our welcome was worn out and soldiers were sent stateside by the thousands.

If anyone knows who that sniper was, pass along the word that he’s forever welcome at my fire. You have brothers-in-arms (both current and former) out there that won’t sell you out. We aren’t at all like our Quran-kissing government and certain Quran-kissing officers appointed by it.

I can’t wait for the hate-mail. I’ll have something to read at least. Truthfully, I could care less. Islam is a religion of hate and intolerance and the Quran promotes oppression, barbarity, and everything that stands against the values of Western civilization. Since I’m not in the Army anymore, I think I’ll go buy a copy of the Quran to shoot, burn and piss on in a showing of support and solidarity for the unfortunate sniper who was merely expressing his dissatisfaction with the war.

In fact, I invite all members of Western Civilization to join me in this show of support.

In fact, I think we ought to create a Pro Western Civilization and Freedoms Day, where we celebrate by burning copies of the Quran and posting cartoons of Muhammad online. I nominate July 4 as the perfect day since there will already be lots of bangs and burning going on.

To anyone who might think to complain about my characterization, don’t bother until millions of Muslims condemn terrorism and take to the streets protesting against Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Al Qaeda and Muqtada Al Sadr. You see, if you take exception with my characterization that the Quran doesn’t advocate violence and oppression, then you must demonstrate it and your willingness to condemn those (and even fight against them) who use it for those purposes. Until the Muslim world does, their silent condoning of it will win them no sympathy from me.

It’s time we call it like it is. Religion is screwing up our world and holding human progress back. All religions. I’m all for spirituality and a belief in the divine…but the moment people organize and declare some moral authority and knowledge of the divine that another cannot access for personal, political and other reasons and begin seeking money, influence and power…that’s where I draw the line at tolerating it.

Maybe while I’m at it I’ll shoot, burn and piss on copies of a Bible and the Torah as well. It is largely the Abrahamic faiths that have screwed up the world for most of the last several millennia after all. I wonder if that sniper is willing to shoot a copy of the Bible?

Now, lest you think I don’t understand the need for being sensitive to the concerns of people in a host nation while on a military mission, you’re quite wrong. What he did was not smart at all.

But a crime? Please. Already I have read on liberal blogs how horrible this whole thing was, yet those same liberals are too happy to condone real crimes that illegal aliens commit in coming to this country and the real crimes they commit after they are here, and the crimes of the unethical business owners who hire them to make an easy dollar, and the crimes of the politicians who seek to give our nation away.

July 4, baby. Send my your Quran videos and photos.

In fact, I think I may do something I have not previously done and open my blog up to blogging by anyone who wants to guest blog on the topic of the conflict between Western civilization and the forces of Islamification, the topic of religious corruption and misuse, or on the topics of freedoms and liberties. In fact, I’m declaring now that the entire month of June and the first week of July, I am now accepting and soliciting posts on those topics should anyone care to jump in on the issues.

I’m not saying I will take any and all submissions and post them, but if it is well written and you ran a spell check, there’s no reason it won’t get posted–unless it is full of hate-mongering and comments that are slurs, racist rantings, etc. Let that be clear: I take exception with ideologies and actions and politics and even with individuals, but not with any race or ethnic group (I’m multi-racial myself after all).

Democrats Seek To Torpedo Bill That Would Increase Veterans Educational Benefits

Congressional Democrats are looking for ways to kill a bill aimed at increasing educational benefits for veterans and ensuring that enlistees are getting the benefits they are promised. The $2 billion bill, Sen. Jim Webb’s Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act, is meant to do the right thing for those serving their country, but Democrats are seeking to turn it into a weapon to use against the Bush administration by getting it vetoed.

President Bush has already said he will veto the bill if there are any attachments or amendments to it. Now, let’s look at why that is important…

The bill was created because educational benefits are one of the biggest enlistment incentives for prospective enlistees, and also because educational benefits are not keeping up with the cost of a college education. Congress is trying to do right by those protecting our nation—or rather, some in Congress are. The Democrats, however, see an opening—a way to wound the war machine they believe the current administration to be.

You see, if Democrats attach something to the bill, and the President vetoes it, it looks like the President is against increasing educational benefits for veterans he is sending off to war. It will also mean enlistment/recruiting efforts will suffer and many potential enlistees will think twice when they see that the military is not going to provide benefits that keep pace with costs of an education in America. You can’t hardly afford even a community college education on the current benefits.

Now, if this bill is to benefit our veterans, why can’t Democrats just leave it alone and allow those men and women to get what they have earned and more than deserve—more importantly, what they were promised? Because this is a chance to hurt enlistment, make the military and the administration look bad, a way to impact troop strength over the long term which will pressure the administration and the Department of Defense to wrap up the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan quickly. It could conceivably lead to premature withdrawal of troops as the military leadership begins to view the administration and Congress as non-supportive, leading to recommendations for disengagement from top generals—and which Congress and any administration would find hard to ignore.

Left alone, the bill will pass and provide the resources to ensure our veterans receive the benefits they signed up for and that they have earned. Left alone, it means more veterans are likely to complete a college or vocational education and find a new career after their military service is completed. Left alone, it means soldiers can plan for the next phase of their lives and try to get ahead in life, moving on as citizens with faith in the government, the military they served in, and their countrymen. It means a more brightly lighted path back to normalcy after enduring and surviving the war their countrymen determined they should fight.

So why the hell won’t Democrats leave the bill alone and do what is right?

Because the moonbat Democrats don’t want veterans moving on, or better educated. They might vote more Democrats out of jobs for one. Secondly, if veterans are upset and disenfranchised—and stories about it are making the rounds in the media for years to come—it hurts military recruitment.

It seems Democrats don’t want to honor soldiers. It appears that they just want to live as cheaply as possible behind the wall of safety those soldiers provide, while giving the country those soldiers fought for away—to those foreign invaders called illegal aliens. Come to think of it, at least one Republican running for President wants to do the same thing.

Embryos Created From Multiple Persons?

Interesting news indeed. Check it out on Yahoo.

Are we getting to that place Hitler once dreamed of—against our own determination that such desires were a threat? That place where there is a world full of genetically perfect and superior humans? Every year, science puts us closer to that gray area of ethics, genetics and evolutionary biology that science fiction writers love to tackle…

Hacker Group Anonymous Declares War On Scientology

The hacker group Anonymous has declared war on Scientology after the so-called church went into its customary litigation mode against a video posted on YouTube.

Here’s the video announcement released by Anonymous….

I got a kick out hearing the news—just as I did hearing of Germany’s recent decision that Scientology is a threat to their nation and refusal to grant them status as a religion. Other European countries are considering similar action it seems. That means they must continue paying corporate taxes as a for-profit corporation in Germany, at least. Scientology has fired back, angry at a German paper for comparing Tom Cruise to Nazi propagandist, Joseph Goebells.

The war is under way. Already there have been innocent victims in this cyber war. Also, the IT company Prolexic has chosen to side with Scientology, agreeing to defend them against the hacker attack. The company will now either sink or swim on how well they can defend their client.

Even if the company goes down, they’ll make a lot of money in the process. However, what is troubling to some is the thought that Prolexic also protects banks and credit unions. Do you want your bank money protected by a company defending cults that have been accused of brainwashing and murder and other not-so-nice things? There are a lot of what-if scenarios centered around ‘guilt by association’ that could cause not only Prolexic but its other clients difficulty.

I like underdogs myself and dislike cults, so I’m betting on Anonymous and against Prolexis and Scientology. Hey, if you bet, bet to win, right?

I am reminded of how my old band wrote a pro-hacker song called Crack Daddy years ago. About the same time, we also joked about the idea of a song focusing on Xenu and the whole space-warlord-exiles-people-to-Earth (which was called Teegeeack back then) thing…which ends with people strapped to volcanoes being blown up with hydrogen bombs. Most Scientologists will deny anything related to Xenu and suggest it is an auditing level. Google it and find out what that’s about.

Thankfully, Dianetics is a horribly written book, or else my mortal soul could have been in danger for reading it over a decade ago. Wiser for having read it—in that I know now that I should treat any Scientologist as I would any other person with mental health issues—I hope that if I’m ever in an auto accident Tom Cruise is nowhere near, so that I don’t have to worry about him stopping to offer his help. (I’m snickering really bad here…sorry…)

You can stay up to date on this war and get a frontline seat by checking out Project Chanology, the sort of command and control center for the effort.

Scientologists like to deny their organization has been anything other than a devoutly religious church, but evidence suggests otherwise. Like Mary Sue Hubbard (L. Ron Hubbard’s wife) and other Church leaders’ criminal convictions. You can read about those over at The New York Times web site.

I am particularly interested in this cyber war because of its relevance to assymetric warfare. In fact, if you aren’t aware of the implications this particular war might have and what other similar wars are being waged, you might want to check out a fantastic blog called Global Guerrillas. Billed as “An open notebook on the first epochal war of the 21st Century” it is a fascinating blog that I discovered a while back.

I’ve added a link for it in my blogroll (not sure why I didn’t think to do so long ago) to help spread the word about it. Some of the stories on it are fascinating examples of the broad spectrum of new conflict the world is experiencing. You think you know the face of warfare in the 21st century? Think again.

The interesting backdrop to all of this is what it means for all people of the world in terms of maintaining their liberties. Strange to say so, but it is true. Such warfare as Anonymous is waging may become one of the major tools in the arsenal of the discontent masses should more governments become totalitarian in nature. Given the trend around the world, that isn’t far fetched at all.

In fact, it is the likely outcome due to the continued push for globalization and the destruction of sovereignty of nations by the United Nations. Those who are unhappy with the direction of globalization, with the thought of global government, with the notion of Big Brother, and with the current measures seeking to take away personal freedoms and liberties under the guise of homeland security ought to be following this war between Anonymous and the Church of Scientology closely.

I saw one comment by an Anonymous member (if I am not mistaken) to the effect that this was the war that their previous efforts had prepared them for. That is an interesting comment as it suggests there are those interested in actually waging war against the establishment for purposes other than the fun of it, or just because its what one can do. To many, the war on the establishment is a war being fought to preserve freedoms for all people.

And yet, most such groups are seen as terrorists, criminals and whatnot for those types of actions. That is what will make this truly interesting to watch. How Anonymous comes out of this whole thing. Will they be seen (by the masses, not governments…we know how they will view Anonymous already—as a threat) as criminals and cyber-terrorists, or as champions of intellectual and spiritual freedom. And will they shoot themselves in the foot if they come out of it in a positive light by returning to causes viewed by the masses as simply malicious and not so noble?

The litigation and the denial of service attacks, propaganda war and hilarity of celebrity videos on YouTube are the least interesting aspect of it, when you consider it in that context.

In the meantime, you can see the video that makes you hope you never have to meet Tom Cruise and get information on what to do if the Church of Scientology comes after you and tries to assassinate your character or sue you into debt at the Suppressive Person Defense League web site. Weird that you have organizations dedicated to defending you against litigation by a supposed church, isn’t it?

Not really, if you’ve ever read the works of L. Ron Hubbard. I once owned the entire Mission Earth series in hardcover. His fiction was alright. Too bad there are people that can’t see the difference between science fiction and reality, though.

Preserving America: Time To Revive The Free Soil Party

There is a growing discussion about preserving American culture and values—mainly from unchecked immigration, Islamification and the forces of globalization. This is part of the larger discussion about preserving the heritage and culture of Europe and Western civilization from the same forces.

This movement is gathering steam…if it is a movement. It is a growing recognition that Western culture is under attack by many forces and is in danger of being lost.

As it pertains to America, the time has come to revive a political party that once existed in this country. The Free Soil Party. They were active briefly just before the Civil War.

The Free Soil Party

Their platform?

“…we inscribe on our banner, ‘Free Soil, Free Speech, Free Labor and Free Man,’ and under it we will fight on and fight ever, until a triumphant victory shall reward our exertions.”

You Just Never Know

Life is fragile. It is something I’m keenly aware of, and my thoughts for the past few nights have been on my brother, who had a close brush with death this last weekend.

He was in an accident involving multiple cars and two tractor trailers, of which he was driving one. His rig caught fire and he was trapped inside, unable to get out either door as flames were pulled into the cab. He managed to escape just moments before it was consumed in flames by smashing the windshield with his fists and pulling himself clear, yet he suffered second and third degree burns to his hands, arms, and head.

A photo of the truck showed nothing left of the cab. I had called to check on him, but left a message on his voice mail when it picked up. I realized afterwards that it had gone up in the fire along with everything else.

Several people ended up needing medical care, and I hope they are well. State police are suggesting he may have contributed in part to it, but apparently there were some witnesses who suggest another motorists may caused it or contributed to it.

I’m awaiting news of how his visit with a burn specialist goes, as I have conflicting reports of what the situation is. I spoke with him on the phone and he dismissed the injuries as nothing, but I know how he is. He could have a butcher knife stuck in his thigh and he would laugh about it before he would give anyone cause to worry, especially his daughter. My sister spoke with his girlfriend and I’m not sure if the word I received (passed through other family members) was exaggerated or not, but there is concern.

Apparently the burn specialist he saw said he never should have been released from the hospital due to the severity of his injuries, and there is a risk that he could lose his hands.

I have been sick to my stomach since hearing that last night, and am dreading calling this evening.
