Song Of The Day: Sick Of It All - Step Down
May 3, 2008
Nothing like some old-school hardcore from NYC to get the blood pumping. One of my favorite bands, kicking out some slamming riffs with more energy than ten pep squads drowning in Red Bull. It’s also a hell of a lot of fun, this song.
Check out the Sick Of It All website and get acquainted with the band if you aren’t already. For two decades these guys have been at it, and they own the term hardcore.
And if you’re one of those silly people who is even dreaming about posting some stupid comment about the pits of today versus the ones of yesteryear or some such nonsense, forget it. If people aren’t getting knocked out by Jack Daniels bottles (You gotta admit, John—that was kinda funny!) and bodies aren’t flying about in your pits because you think such people are “ruining the art of pitting” or some other ridiculously lame sentiment, go whine to your Emo therapist at your Emo-core therapy group.
Never fear, though. If you’re Emo, it should be safe enough for you in the forums on the band’s website…

Hi Sean,
Isn’t it amazing how a song, when coupled with a video, can have a completely different impact then just the song on it’s own?
I have to be completely honest. I can do one or two of these hardcore songs in a row, then I start getting a little cranky.
Not this one, though. I really had alot of fun listening to it and watching it. Maybe maybe it was the song and the amusing and clever way they showed some pit moves…is that right? Pit? My favorite move was “Picking Up Change”.
Because I also have to admit that this 38 year old woman avoids mosh pits like the plague. I know too much now to truly enjoy them. I think about saliva and blood being splattered around. I think about my parents, and how they still remind me 20 years later of all the money they spent to straighten my teeth. It might be kind of fun to stand slightly to one side, behind a very strong man or cement barrier, and waggle an electric cattle prod into the crowd. Talk about some new fun pit moves!
(hehehhhhh)
Now, after reading your post, do you mean to suggest, Sean, that perhaps you have ‘pitted’? And do you still possess all of your teeth?
Hey, thank you for posting a fun song.
Actually a good tension reliever. I smiled and listened along, and I think I would actually enjoy hearing it some more. I’ll test it out again later.
Have a great day!
Carrie

Carrie,
Yes, I have been in a pit here and there. Not that it’s my thing really. And yes, since I am older these days, I do tend to leave them to youngsters, lol. Still have all my teeth too.
Glad you enjoyed the video! I hope you are tension free and enjoying your day.
Sean
