One For The Road

April 4, 2008

I just wrote and published a post critical of the new WordPress Dashboard, and minutes later, it becomes an unpublished draft, which I can not publish. So now, the WordPress team apparently has taken to censorship, and being critical of the new design (which I think is several steps backwards in terms of usability and as a UI in general) is not to be tolerated it appears.

Well, censorship such as that is a definite loyalty killer. I’m going to find another blogging platform and leave the WordPress community behind. This is simply unacceptable I feel.

The previous post was to be my last until they changed the UI or offered some way to revert to it, but now with this hijacking of my blog, I’m done with WordPress. I will post the location of my new blog as soon as I have it up and running.

[Update: Apparently the WP team isn't censoring, it was just major bugs causing the already published piece to unpublish itself. That doesn't really make me much happier...]

I haven’t updated my sites to the latest version of WordPress. I will only do that once things are stable.

It’s sad to hear that even in free WordPress, there is censorship, which is an affront of the freedom of the press.

I am using blogspot, but I don’t put all my eggs in one basket. I started buying domains and run my own websites under my own control.

I hate the new UI too.

Thanks for dropping by to read and share your thoughts. I am debating whether I want to salvage all the effort I’ve put into this blog or just take it offline altogether.

The new UI is just so clunky and uncomfortable that I don’t get that momentary feeling of pleasure I used to get when logging in. It was a bit like biting into a mango before…now, it’s like eating unsalted crackers.

Checked out your blog…very good stuff. Couldn’t help but think of my friend Allie who lives in Long Island as soon as I figured out what LIRR meant. Actually, the WP issue with the UI has given me a good excuse to explore various other platforms and CMS options, and a reason to think more about the several websites I was about to launch based on using WP as a CMS.

I might just snag a domain for this blog and as matter of personal rebellion use some other blogware and see about finding a way to redirect all traffic to it (well, within reason of course).

Thanks for dropping by! I hope you have a wonderful day.

    :)

I’m not sure if you checked out my WP.com site or my 25centlife.com site (which is powered by WP too). But thank you for the kind words. :)

Nice analogy with the food… now I need to find something to eat…
