Update On Air Powered Cars

May 31, 2007

A while back I mentioned a unique car that had been designed and built in India, that runs on air power. It appears now the car is going into production, and is slated to make appearances in at least 12 different countries.

The bad news is that it will not be making an appearance in America. The construction of the vehicle and its performance in crash tests are likely to keep it out of the American market.

That’s a shame, because this is an idea whose time has come.

Powerful auto and petroleum industry lobbyists are sure to want to keep this green vehicle as far from the mind of the average American as they can. The rest of the world will benefit, and America will continue to drag its feet on the issue of renewable powered transportation.

Germany, South Africa and Israel are among those nations that will see the car on their streets. There are a few different models in the works, and the cost not only of owning but operating is quite a bit lower than a fossil fuel powered vehicle.

I am glad to see this car is making it into production. There is a cool peek at the engine over on Popular Mechanics.

This is very cool and I had heard about this from someone else about seeing it on Discovery Channel but kinda didn’t believe him. Now that I saw your links I guess I do.

    Keep us posted on this.

Mark, thanks for dropping by to read and comment. Glad you enjoyed the post. And, you’re not alone—several people I told in person about it thought I was joking. It just sounds that alien as a concept to people who have grown up in an era of petroleum powered industry and infrastructure.

I’m hoping that a version suitable for the USA will be available down the road. This is just the thing we need—especially in cities.

Take care and have a great day!
