I was over at ReadWriteWeb.com and they have a new list of the Top 100 Alternative Search Engines out as of yesterday. I know, shame on me for not finding it sooner.
I put a lot of them through a grueling test. Well, grueling for me at least…

I found a great how-to guide for installing Mandriva Linux Free on the HowToForge.com site. It will take you step-by-step through the process so you know what to expect.
The guide has tons of screenshots and easy-to-follow instructions that will have anyone up and running in no time…

Al Gore says he leads a carbon-neutral lifestyle and that his outrageous electric bill is OK. The former Vice President, fresh off an academy award win with his documentary, is trying his hand again at the moral equivalency argument made popular by his former boss, Bill Clinton.
It seems Al Gore’s home uses more than ten times the amount of electricity an average Nashville home uses.
Gore believes this is OK because he invests in green energy. His ‘carbon-neutral’ lifestyle means that as long as you are rich enough to invest large enough amounts in renewable energies, you can feel guilt-free about lighting an oil well on fire like Saddam did back in the Gulf War…

I found this incredible story on Wired News by Mark Woodman, a software engineer. It is about his son who suffers from sensory processing disorder and his attempt to get his son help by ‘rewiring’ his young brain…

Corel Lightning is a mini-application suite for use on USB drives that should allow you to be more productive and collaborate better. It should, in theory at least.
Does it live up to the hype? Take a look at what I thought about the latest offering from Corel…

Who would have thought widgets would become such a presence in daily life? The word widget itself suggests that these curious oddities are unmemorable things.
Alas, Web widgets are not so easily forgotten. They are everywhere you go on the Web these days. You simply cannot escape them. Many of them are useful or fun, however, and this is partly the why of their viral nature.
I spent most of the day dwelling on widgets. But please, don’t try this at home without proper supervision.
I’m a trained professional…

Another favorite site, this one a job search engine. Why do I like Indeed.com’s job search engine so much? This one separates itself from the rest by its various tools, all of which are actually quite interesting and helpful.
More importantly, Indeed is making a good attempt at humanizing search portals without the clutter often associated with such endeavors. And that may be the best selling point yet…

Fox Interactive Media just acquired Strategic Data Corporation and is attempting to put to use all the data it has gleaned from MySpace. They plan to create better ad targeting and leverage MySpace to challenge Yahoo, MSN and AOL.
I have not been able to get anywhere from the links on my profile at MySpace today. Maybe it is because the site is bogged down under the heavy load of everyone clicking on so many cool, new and improved ads!
Somehow, I doubt it…

It’s something right out of the 1984 movie, Footloose, starring Kevin Bacon. New York doesn’t think dancing is an expression of the freedom of speech.
The New York State Supreme Court’s Appellate Division had this to say…

You have to check out this tongue-in-cheek jab at the whole Microsoft and Apple advertising war that depicts the Mac as cool and the PC as stuffy and nerdy. You can see it on YouTube.
I promise you, it’s worth a laugh.

Computer manufacturer and services company HP made a big discovery after announcing in 2005 that it would provide support services to the Debian Gnu/Linux distro. The discovery was $25 million in hardware sales directly attributable to their support of the community-based and built distro at the end of 2006.
And, that was just in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Even HP’s worldwide marketing manager of open source and Linux, Jeffrey Wade, was shocked….
